Ironworker Learning Management System (IW-LMS) Welcome Welcome to the Ironworker learning management system. This site provides the online portions of your training, including; electronic versions of your manuals, homework, assignments, tests, and exams. Apprentices are required to receive at least 204 hours of classroom and shop instruction during every year of training. The subjects taken in the shop and classroom complement the hands-on training received in the field. Subjects include: Blueprint reading Care and safe use of tools Mathematics Safety issues Welding Oxy-acetylene flame cutting The road to becoming a journeyman ironworker is through apprenticeship training. The Iron Worker's apprenticeship program is a well-organized and supervised method of training people, with little or no knowledge of the craft, to become journeymen ironworkers qualified in all segments of the trade. Most ironworker apprenticeships last 3 or 4 years depending on the local union requirements. An ideal schedule provides equal training in structural, reinforcing, ornamental, welding, and rigging. The actual length of training for each subject may vary depending on the predominant type of work available in the local area. What is expected of ironworker apprentices? Complete cooperation and willingness to learn Regular school attendance Dependability on the job The ability to work as part of a team The development of safe work habits Perform a day’s work for a day’s pay Be drug and alcohol-free IW-LMS Technical Student Enrollment Questions? See the LMS Blog for details. Open Book Geek Tip: Use Tabs to jump between Assignment Sheets and Flipbooks Using a Mac or PC with Chrome? Try using tabs to easily jump between assignment sheets and flipbooks. Here's how: Once your course is open, hold down the Control (Ctrl) key on your keyboard while selecting an assignment sheet's Go button. This will cause the assignment sheet to load as a new tab as opposed to a pop-up. Now hold down the Control key again while selecting the Open Book button. This will cause the flipbook to load in a new tab as well. Using tabs makes it easier to flip between an assignment sheet and the flipbook when search for content in a reference manual. NOTE: When finished with an exercise, be sure to close out your tabs .
